Correcting the Cause of Pain

Pain. At some point in your life you will likely experience it, whether it be in the form of a headache, low back pain, neck pain, or that irritating ache across your shoulders. Unfortunately most people will only ever address it on the level of a patch, instead of addressing the cause of it.

You are taught that pain is a manifestation of a lack of an NSAID (Non Steroidal Anti Inflammatory Drug) like Aleve, Tylenol, or Aspirin. Or a lack of the right cream or  hot/cold pad. But alas, none of these are the CAUSE of your pain. Not to say these don't help you feel better, but they are still a mere patch.

So, what is typically the CAUSE of your pain?

The structural misalignment of your body is typically the main culprit. Here are some examples:

  • Low back pain.  The low back can express pain from the joints of the lumbar spine being restricted, the SI (Sacro Iliac) joints being restricted, and the muscles of the lumbar extensors, gluteals (medius, minimus, and maximus), piriformis, hip flexors, among others. These muscles can develop trigger points that refer pain the many parts of the low back area, as well as down the legs or into the hips. These are CAUSES. In order to CORRECT them, you need to have them assessed and corrected through corrective exercise, precision joint adjustments, and spinal reshaping techniques as needed.
  • Neck pain, the annoying ache across your shoulders, and headaches. The most common problem with this area is "Anterior Head Carriage". The head is carried in front of the body instead of over the shoulders, which tightens the muscles at the base of the skull (suboccipitals) and across the shoulders (upper trapezius and levator scapulae) which can create trigger points which are notorious pain generators, as well as joints that become restricted that also cause a number of pain symptoms and decrease the range of movement of the head and neck. If the distortion present in the neck isn't addressed through adjustments, corrective exercises, and specific spinal reshaping techniques, you are merely patching a problem.
If you are in the Kansas City area and want to finally CORRECT the CAUSE of your pain instead of continuously patching it, then schedule a complimentary consultation at Northland Physical Medicine at 816-452-4488.
