Headaches come in many forms, including tension, migraine, cluster, and sinus/allergy. What they all have in common is that they are all debilitating and force you to alter your life around them, from taking over the counter meds at various times of the year to hiding in a dark room with no sound or smell for hours or days.
Are you ready to begin to consider a more natural approach to relieving your headaches?
Here at Northland Physical Medicine we address the most common causes of headaches:
1. Structural. Many times headaches are one aspect of a structural imbalance called "Anterior Head Syndrome".
What happens: The head is carried in front of the body, forcing the muscles at the base of your skull and across your shoulders to work harder than normal. The increased muscle tension leads to the joints of various parts of your spine in the neck and upper back to quit moving properly and become a headache pain generator, as well as the muscles themselves, which develop trigger points that can refer headache pain as well.
How we correct it: Through our comprehensive structural corrective care we address every aspect of Anterior Head Syndrome, including adjust the joints that are restricted, rebalancing muscle function, directly addressing trigger points, AND reshaping the spine that has likely lost it's optimal shape and curve.
2. Addressing the nerves causing your headaches. After a thorough assessment, we may find that we have to directly address the nerves in a part of your nasal cavity that cause certain types of headaches.
How we correct it: We use a very specific procedure that actually addresses the nerves at the back part of your nasal cavity directly. This procedure creates powerful relief for many people with debilitating headaches.

Correcting the Cause of Pain
Pain. At some point in your life you will likely experience it, whether it be in the form of a headache, low back pain, neck pain, or that irritating ache across your shoulders. Unfortunately most people will only ever address it on the level of a patch, instead of addressing the cause of it.
You are taught that pain is a manifestation of a lack of an NSAID (Non Steroidal Anti Inflammatory Drug) like Aleve, Tylenol, or Aspirin. Or a lack of the right cream or hot/cold pad. But alas, none of these are the CAUSE of your pain. Not to say these don't help you feel better, but they are still a mere patch.
So, what is typically the CAUSE of your pain?
The structural misalignment of your body is typically the main culprit. Here are some examples:

So, what is typically the CAUSE of your pain?
The structural misalignment of your body is typically the main culprit. Here are some examples:
- Low back pain. The low back can express pain from the joints of the lumbar spine being restricted, the SI (Sacro Iliac) joints being restricted, and the muscles of the lumbar extensors, gluteals (medius, minimus, and maximus), piriformis, hip flexors, among others. These muscles can develop trigger points that refer pain the many parts of the low back area, as well as down the legs or into the hips. These are CAUSES. In order to CORRECT them, you need to have them assessed and corrected through corrective exercise, precision joint adjustments, and spinal reshaping techniques as needed.
- Neck pain, the annoying ache across your shoulders, and headaches. The most common problem with this area is "Anterior Head Carriage". The head is carried in front of the body instead of over the shoulders, which tightens the muscles at the base of the skull (suboccipitals) and across the shoulders (upper trapezius and levator scapulae) which can create trigger points which are notorious pain generators, as well as joints that become restricted that also cause a number of pain symptoms and decrease the range of movement of the head and neck. If the distortion present in the neck isn't addressed through adjustments, corrective exercises, and specific spinal reshaping techniques, you are merely patching a problem.
